PROPOSALS to bolster the city’s flood defences have gone on display in an old electricity substation.

The Environment Agency’s plans show changes which will be made across York, and include a new flood defence to the rear of the Memorial Gardens to reduce the risk of flooding to properties on Wellington Row, North Street, Rougier Street and George Hudson Street via flood water flowing across Station Avenue.

Flood defences will also be put in place within the Royal Mail depot to reduce the risk of flooding on Leeman Road, while the existing floodgates under Lendal Bridge and Wellington Row/North Street will be raised.

Improvements will also be made to the existing wall at Park Inn Hotel

It is anticipated the construction phase will start early 2019.
