PAST and present staff and students of a Pocklington school will come together on Monday, February 5 for a special concert to support an inspirational teacher in her battle with cancer.

The concert is to be staged to raise funds for Woldgate School teacher Kate Amin, whose plight was reported in the Press in October.

Kate, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer last March, at just 36, needs funding for Avastin, a treatment not currently available on the NHS.

Talented former students Katie Wood, Megan Preece, Livvy Rooks and Melanie McCabe are set to perform, alongside the Woldgate School choir and the Forgotten Voices Community Choir, who are based at Pocklington Arts Centre where the concert is to be held.

Sam Dunkley, former community music co-ordinator at Woldgate, said: "When I heard that Kate was ill it was a real shock, and when I found out that the drugs she needed were not funded by the NHS I thought the concert would be a fantastic way of bringing people together. It will be a fantastic event."

Tickets are available from www.pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk or 01759 301 547.
