A NEW campaign is being launched in 2018 to help young homeless people in York.

The youth homelessness charity SASH is urging estate agents to back the venture, Home for Good, to make it a success.

Participating businesses will make a donation to SASH for every home sold and by choosing an estate agent that is supporting Home for Good, buyers will know they are also helping to prevent youth homelessness in the area.

York estate agent Hudson Moody are already firmly behind the scheme with director Tarnia Hudson saying: “We chose to support SASH because it provides such a valuable lifeline to young people and we are especially proud to be actively supporting the Home for Good initiative in York and surrounding areas. As a local, independent business we felt it was important to give something back to the community and by participating in Home for Good we are able to help young people so desperately in need of a roof over their head.

"We understand the stresses and strains involved in moving but cannot begin to imagine the stresses and strains local young adults go through when they find themselves homeless. Through making a donation to SASH following another successful completion, we are doing our little bit to help those seeking a home off the streets.

SASH business development manager, Ruth Fawcett said: “As a charity we are increasingly reaching out to the local community for support and we have always been impressed by the willingness of local businesses to get involved. Home for Good is an ideal opportunity for York estate agents to contribute to our work and at the same time raise their profile as businesses making a difference to their local communities.”

SASH places16 to 25-year-olds who cannot live at home with volunteers and supports them towards independence. Their work helps homeless young people avoid the trap of long-term homelessness and unemployment.

In 2017 SASH has offered more than 100 nights of emergency accommodation to young people in York with nowhere safe to go, and has provided long-term support to 20 young people through its Supported Lodgings project.
