DOZENS of new jobs are coming to York in the new year after a builders’ merchant confirmed it is opening a new site.

The new Selco Builders’ Warehouse will be based in Osbaldwick Link Road, and is due to open at the start of February with the creation of 50 jobs at the site.

The firm already has branches in Bradford and Leeds, and recruitment is expected to start in the coming weeks for local people to take on a variety of positions.

Declan Ronayne, chief executive of Selco Builders’ Warehouse, said: “York is our first opening in 2018 and will take our number of branches in the UK to 60. Selco has undergone huge and rapid growth over the last five years and the plan is for that to continue.

“The Leeds and Bradford branches have given us a presence in the area over the last few years and we are delighted to be strengthening that. Our recruitment policy has always been to employ people from the branch’s local community and that is continuing in York. We want to give people genuine career opportunities and the chance to climb through the ranks at Selco.”

Mr Ronayne said the branch would also be a boost to local tradespeople, offering products at trade prices seven days a week.

The site will also offer trade services, Selco Hire and a café, a 30 minute Click & Collect service and a free Project List app, which allows tradespeople to manage and quote for all jobs through their smartphone.
