YORK Racecourse is celebrating after winning five different accolades at the ‘Oscars’ of British racecourses - the National Racecourse Association Showcase Awards.

It won the ‘Best Event’ category for its new 18th raceday meeting in July, when a sell-out crowd enjoyed both the innovative Jump Jockeys Nunthorpe and a live concert with Olly Murs.

York senior receptionist, Alison Storey also won the inaugural ‘Outstanding Achievement Award.’

More recognition for the course came courtesy of a VisitEngland survey of all UK racecourses, which saw York win a record three categories - “Staff Customer Service”, “Best Fast Food Outlet” for the Knavesmire Food Court and a “Lovely Loos” accolade.

Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course, William Derby, said staff were honoured to have been recognized by both the Showcase judges and VisitEngland assessors.

“It brought back happy memories of the fabulous atmosphere here on our new raceday and offers well deserved recognition to the team that worked so hard to deliver it. We know that Alison is a star, so it was lovely to see her shine bright for the wider world. I’m delighted their efforts have been recognised at the end of another successful season.”
