A RYEDALE woman has celebrated turning 100 with a birthday party and a letter from the Queen.
Florence Woodcock, who was born in Leeds in 1917 but who moved to Wintringham when she got married aged 25, celebrated turning 100 at Ashfield Care Home in Malton, where she now lives.
Her party was on Saturday with relatives and friends. Staff at the home decorated the dining room and all dressed in period costumes from between 1920 and the year 2000.
They also arranged for a singer to come in to entertain everyone.
She said: “We had a lovely party with friends and relatives - everyone that wanted to come.”
Florence has a son, Douglas, two grandaughters and two great-grandchildren.
She said she received a birthday card from the Queen wishing her congratulations on turning 100, as well as a birthday card from the Secretary of State. Asked if she has any tips for reaching 100, she said: “Just enjoy yourself and be very very happy.”
