A 24-HOUR strike on York-based Northern trains will go ahead after talks aimed at resolving a row over the role of guards collapsed.

Members of the RMT union will walk out on Wednesday, November 8, in the dispute with parent company Arriva Rail North.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “The abject failure of Arriva Rail North bosses to take today’s talks seriously means that the action next week goes ahead.”

Richard Allan, deputy managing director of Arriva Rail North, said the firm asked RMT to suspend strike action but this was not accepted so it would concentrate on running as many trains as possible.
