THE National Railway Museum is making a song and dance about science and engineering for the next fortnight.

Staff also plan to make learning more fun for children after they return to school after the half-term.

Already thousands of children and their parents have visited this year's Future Engineers series of events called "Conquering Forces" which started on Saturday.

They were treated to performances by science rapper Jon Chase as he combined music with science and dancers from Flux Moving Science who led an interactive workshop.

From next weekend, performance poet Dave Jarman will be back in his home city with a brand-new set of his railway poems to lead an interactive show.

Other activities include "Under Pressure", a show focussed on tunnels and the effects of pressure on the body.

It is the second year the museum has staged Future Engineers in which it aims to make science, engineering and the job of an engineer interesting to children.

After half-term which in some parts of England has already begun and in York starts next weekend, the Future Engineers theme will continue for school visits in November.

About 30,000 people are expected to visit the museum during the next fortnight.
