A BELOVED resident of Sealife Scarborough has died from kidney failure.

Bubbles, a 21-year-old seal, had lived at the attraction since 2006, but was born in captivity in Colchester 1996 and moved to Sealife Weymouth in 2004.

He was a very mischievous but popular seal who fathered five pups with five different females.

After two years in Weymouth he arrived in Scarborough where he was later joined by his two sons.

Lyndsey Crawford-Darwell, head of animal care, said: “There are so few symptoms when seals have kidney issues it becomes very difficult for us to spot before things become very serious.

“This sad news in understandably upsetting and we will miss Bubbles a great deal although it’s comforting to know we gave him a lovely home for 11 years, which he would likely not have survived in the wild due to his very poor sight.

“He has limited vision which made him always easy to spot at feeding times - he would be the seal closest to the front of the pool! He leaves behind his pool mates Bruno, Mando, Pendle, Herbie and Ed who I’m sure will miss him as much as we will.”
