I HAD the privilege to attend the opening night of Helena Fox’s Bomb Happy and wish to encourage anyone to travel to the other locations in Yorkshire to experience first-hand the moving stories of the five York Normandy veterans.
Sadly two have passed away, but the remaining three were in the audience on the opening night at Helmsley Arts Centre to see and hear the monologues superbly delivered by the five young actors and created verbatim by the writer.
A standing ovation was received and not a dry eye could be seen in the auditorium.
This is a moving account of the horrors experienced by these young conscripts and I find it sad that it cannot be shown in our beautiful city of York, where the remaining nonagenarians now reside.
Other locations include Richmond, Halifax, Otley, Pocklington and Goole and the veterans are attending each performance.
Perhaps I am biased, being related to a member of the cast, but this production is worth promoting. Go along and see for yourself a wealth of talent and bravery.
