Rail passengers in York were facing long delays today (Sunday, October 1) after problems on the East Coast Mainline.
First engineering works near Berwick-upon-Tweed over-ran leading to delays in the morning.
Then two trains broke down between Dunbar and Berwick-upon-Tweed in the middle of the day.
Throughout this afternoon, services through York have been cancelled or delayed with one service expected to be seven hours late arriving in London Kings Cross.
Virgin East Coast Mainline sent its rescue locomotive, called Thunderbird, to clear the line by removing broken-down engines.
The line closures affected both Virgin East Coast Main Line and CrossCountry Trains services.
Rail bosses are hoping the problems will be resolved by around 6pm today.
