FIVE North Yorkshire residents have received their British Empire Medals.
But they did not get to meet the Queen because the ceremony was carried out by the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Barry Dodd CBE at County Hall, Northallerton.
The five are: Marie Taylor, of York, area standard bearer for the Royal Naval Association, for services to veterans and the community:
Richard Frank Barugh, of Easingwold, for services to the community with Galtres community centre:
Roger John Burnett, of Swinton, near Malton, for services to horticulture in Scarborough:
Ian Johnson, of Skelton, near Saltburn, for services to the community in Skelton:
Bessie Underwood, of Castleton, Whitby, for services to elderly people in the local community.
The Lord-Lieutenant said:“Everyone has a wonderful story to tell about selfless service to our community.”
