BOSSES from a York chippy have travelled overseas to learn more about how the fish they use makes it to their fryers.
The Norwegian Seafood Council welcomed Millers Fish and Chips, in Haxby to the port city of Ålesund to discover the facts surrounding one of the largest cod and haddock stocks in the world.
The trip was part of The National Fish and Chip Awards and gave finalists like Miller’s an opportunity to learn about the vital supply chain of Frozen At Sea (FAS) whitefish. Norway has been supplying this to the UK for almost 70 years.
Staff experienced how Norway provides the perfect living environment for cod.
They travelled out on the cold, clear Norwegian waters and uncovered the science behind the country’s sustainable fisheries management programme while witnessing the fishing process; from baiting the lines, to freezing while out at sea.
