YORK Balloon Fiesta is all set to take off today from the Knavesmire while a two-day fun packed festival-style weekend takes place below.
The spectacular display of 50 colourful balloons will be up up and away for a big launch at 4.45pm.
The skies will also be lit up with a TalkTalk Ultra Fibre Optic Night-Glow performance tomorrow evening.
Co-organiser and balloon pilot Oliver Webb, said: "It's been six months in the planning and now everything is set to go. We are expecting around 10,000 people on Saturday and we look forward to welcoming them."
The balloons will fly twice a day, at 7.15am and 4.45pm with tethered balloons on show during the day.
There will be a funfair with Victorian-inspired rides, live music, a beer tent, street food stalls and a bird flying show.
The event is free to enter with a £6 charge for car parking.
