FIREFIGHTERS tackled a grass fire in York which is believed to have been started deliberately.

A crew from Acomb was called to reports of a fire in a wooded area at the rear of school playing fields in Grosvenor Terrace, off Bootham, at about 8.25pm yesterday.

The fire was put out using a beater and wildfire pack.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The cause is believed to be deliberate."
