LITTER is the first focus of Ryedale District Council’s new year-long green campaign.
As part of the anti-litter drive, the council have launched a social media initiative entitled #1PieceofRubbish, asking residents to pick up one piece of rubbish and put it in the bin.
If they then share a picture of themselves doing so, they will have a chance of winning one of a range of prizes including an annual pass to Ryedale Folk Museum, family passes for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and more.
Cllr Luke Ives said: “If we all picked up one piece of rubbish a day we could make a huge difference.”
To win, residents need to share on Twitter @ryedaledc, via the RyedaleDC Facebook page or by emailing it to webmanager@ryedale.gov.uk
The #1pieceofrubbish challenge started as a people’s initiative in France, with the idea that we’re all capable of picking up one piece of rubbish a day; for cleaner streets and cleaner future. The results were – 3,475 Instagram pictures, 12,031 Facebook, Twitter and Instagram fans and 32,483kg of rubbish.
