A HAPPILY married couple who met as amateur actors have celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary.
Richard Rowson, 88, and his wife Mary, 81, from Rawcliffe, were acting in the Chu Chin Chow show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre in 1954 and tied the knot at the resort’s St Saviour church on September 14 1957.
The great grandparents, who have four children and 13 grandchildren, celebrated with a trip to Scarborough and a meal at the Wetherby Whaler, in York.
Mrs Rowson, who worked as a secretary while her husband worked for the former Lendal Rowntree’s store, put their marriage down to “shared interests.”
