A TEENAGE boy has been arrested after an Audi TT was stolen in Humberside.

North Yorkshire Police said they received reports of the vehicle travelling in the area on false number plates on Wednesday, September 13.

The silver Audi had been stolen from a property in Barton-On-Humber in Humberside two months ago, and North Yorkshire Police used Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras on the region's roads to trace the car's movements.

The vehicle was traced to the eastbound carriageway of the M62, close to junction 32, and as police approached the driver tried to escape by driving on the hard shoulder between junctions 33 and 34, then left the motorway onto the A19 at Whitley.

Police followed the stolen vehicle and managed to bring it to a stop, before the driver and passenger got out of the car and ran away.

Officers followed on foot and managed to catch the driver in a nearby field and arrested him. A police spokeswoman said the passenger was not located and remains outstanding.

The spokeswoman said a 15-year-old boy from Morley in West Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, burglary with intent to steal, handling stolen goods and aggravated vehicle taking and remained in police custody.
