SHOWSTOPPING flowers are being arranged to vie for prizes at the Late Summer Show, staged by the oldest horticultural society in the world this weekend.
The third of the four shows of the year hosted by the Ancient Society of York Florists, founded in 1768, will also feature baking, photography and handicrafts, along with flower-arranging and top quality vegetables.
Carefully nurtured chrysanthemums, and dahlias will be admired amongst the blooms and show secretary and former Lord Mayor York, John Galvin's huge collection of cacti will be displayed.
Cups and trophies will be awarded after judging at the benches.
The show venue is Wigginton Recreation Hall and is open to visitors on show day tomorrow from 11am until 3.0pm.
The show moved this year from Askham Bryan College to Wigginton.
Admission is £1. Homemade Refreshments will be available and car parking is free.
