A SPORTS and social club which marked its 70th anniversary last year is now celebrating the success of a major refurbishment.
The club in Bishopthorpe is holding a special event this weekend to toast the occasion.
Dawn Paylor, secretary and treasurer of the club, said the work had transformed "a rather old-fashioned concert room to a fantastic function room with modern lighting, seating, furniture and a large wooden dance floor".
"I am absolutely thrilled with how it has turned out," she said. "It has been nearly a year in planning and the work took three weeks and was carried out by Ian Whiteheads, of Sheffield."
This Saturday's launch event will be welcoming back Beat2Beat, a four-piece rock and pop band from Hull playing covers from the 60’s to present day. Entry is free.
A further two events are planned in September, with local band The 5:15’s playing on Saturday, September 9 (free entry) and the club’s annual Help for Heroes fundraiser will be on Saturday, September 30, featuring the Supermodels. Tickets for this event are £7. For details and tickets phone 01904 707185.
