“YORK station could get another entrance” says The Press headline (August 21).
This is needed so badly. I got a taxi from the station very recently and there was a long queue.
The problem was not the taxis, or lack of them, but delays in getting the taxis in and out.
Firstly, they have the funnel effect of taxis dropping off vying with taxis picking up - two lanes channelled into one.
They then have to negotiate with short stay traffic coming in from the main road on the right, followed by exiting short stay vehicles pushing in from the left.
Wait a minute, I haven’t finished yet... all this traffic is then stopped by pedestrians flocking into the station, and immediately after this by buses that have just dropped off at their stand.
All this is before all station-exiting traffic jostles onto the main road, made difficult by red lights just down the road.
What a mish-mash.
Any new exit can’t come quick enough, but does need to be planned carefully.
