ST LEONARD'S Hospice opened its first city centre charity shop and 12th outlet across York in Fossgate today.
Serenaded by music from Ken Stamp on trombone, a crowd gathered outside at 11am and one minute later the shop was packed with bargain hunters.
All customers were given a free raffle ticket on entry, with the chance of winning tickets to York Races.
The creative shop interior was a talking point amongst customers, with all shop fittings having been created using second hand furniture and donated goods.
The shelving, made from donated tables which were cut in half, painted and then mounted on the wall, was a particular favourite.
Helen Moreton, St Leonard’s Hospice retail manager, said: “We’re overwhelmed with the support we have received on our first day, not only from customers new and old, but from our new friends and neighbours on Fossgate."
