POLICE have called for vigilance after a house in Selby was broken into last week, and other homes were targeted by bogus workers.

North Yorkshire Police said a home in Jesse Close was targeted overnight on Wednesday, August 9, and the burglars gained entry by smashing a patio door at the rear of the house.

A spokesman said the burglars ransacked the house, but could not confirm whether anything had been stolen.

The spokesman said: "A suspicious vehicle - a black BMW X1 - has been sighted in the area acting suspiciously.

"Please can you make sure doors are securely locked on an evening and that all vehicle keys are kept in a safe place at all times."

Following a number of reports from around the Selby area, police have also issued details of two further suspicious vehicles seen recently in suspicious circumstances.

The spokesman said a white Toyota Hiace van - registration R315 NEH - and a white Ford Transit van - registration UUI 2617 - had been reported in the area.

He said the vehicles "have been involved in suspicious circumstances with bogus tradesmen in Selby district", and encouraged anyone who has seen the vans to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, or Trading Standards on 03454 040506.
