A MAN has died after his car collided with a telegraph pole on a North Yorkshire road.

The 54-year-old driver was treated at the scene of the crash on the A6055 between Minskip and Ferrensby, and he was taken by air ambulance to Harrogate District Hospital, but he sadly died there later.

North Yorkshire Police said the Harrogate man's black Mazda MX-5 was travelling from Minskip in the direction of Knaresborough when it left the road and collided with the pole at about 6pm last night.

"The A6055 was closed to allow collision investigators to carry out a full investigation, to determine the circumstances around the incident," said a spokeswoman. "The road reopened at 11.20pm.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who was travelling along the A6055 at the time, who may have seen the black Mazda MX-5 travelling towards Knaresborough prior to the collision, or anyone who has any information which would assist the investigation to contact them on 101, select option 2 and ask to speak to the Major Collision Investigation Team.

"Alternatively they can email MCIT@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference 12170135847."

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters from Boroughbridge and Knaresborough went to the crash.

"Fire crews used cutting gear and spreaders to free the occupant from the vehicle and passed into care of the air ambulance crew," said a spokesman.
