ENGLAND’S gung ho approach to Test cricket, led by the ECB’s director of cricket and chairman of selectors James Whitaker, supported by coach Trevor Bayliss, was finally exposed in a pathetic performance against the South Africans at Trent Bridge.

The visitors played like a Test side should. England’s approach bordered on that of a village Twenty20 team knowing the local pub had cheap beer on offer.

Six losses out of the last eight Tests should surely give those in authority cause for serious concern, particularly on tactics and selection.
