A HAPPY couple from near York who have known each other nearly all their lives are celebrating 70 years of marriage.
Dick and Kathleen Wright, who live close to Stockton-on-the-Forest, tied the knot on July 24, 1947 at a church in Haverton Hill, County Durham.
“We had been family friends as children in Sedgefield, County Durham,” Dick said. “Really, we have known each other all of our lives.”
Dick was a radio and electronics officer in the RAF before, during and after the Second World War and later became a dairy farmer with Kathleen, who had previously worked as a comptometer operator.
They have one son called Geoffrey.
They are celebrating their milestone anniversary, which was on Monday, with a lunch with family and friends this weekend.
