A MAN was led to safety by a neighbour after a fire broke out in a flat in Selby.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a residential fire in Holme Lane at 11.30pm yesterday.

The fire had broke out in the kitchen, but was out when crews arrived.

One man in the flat "was led to safety by a neighbour", a spokesman for the fire service said.

Damage was limited to a pan on a hob, and the cause is believed to be accidental.
