A TV company based in York has won two Royal Television Society awards.

Air Television, which created Helicopter ER for UKTV’s Really channel, beat BBC Four and More 4, for the best low-budget series, and senior shooting researcher Joe Foley was voted best newcomer in the One To Watch award.

The company is based at the University of York and was founded by former BBC executives Ian Cundall and Andy Joynson.

Matt Richards, Air TV Series Producer, said: “We are delighted to have been recognized for the quality of the company’s work.

“We believe passionately in making shows that reflect life in Yorkshire with a distinctly local accent.

“We’d like to thank our partners in making Helicopter ER– the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust and their patients – for their part in helping us win these awards.”

The company is currently working on 30 new episodes of Helicopter ER for Really, and 20 hours of a new programme shot in Yorkshire.
