I’M glad to read that dualling of the A1237 is finally being given serious consideration.

Julian Sturdy is right, this needs to be fixed and should be given top priority to get the city moving (The Press, July 6).

The fact that the issue has been ignored previously because of which authority has control of what money and who has responsibility for different roads is petty and they should always be working together to ensure it’s spent where need is greatest.

So my advice to both the York Outer MP and the city council is this: do it and do it now.

And if they find themselves struggling to put a case together to justify it I recommend putting any objecting councillors (many of which I understand don’t have cars themselves) into a vehicle for a nice long scenic route to work via the A1237 at rush hour until they relent.

As for pressing ahead with upgrades to the roundabouts, I would put this on hold until the decision is made.

Government may not provide full funding and so council could top it up. And if they do then the upgrades will become a redundant waste of money.

Should construction go ahead I hope a clockwise road is built beyond the existing route to minimise disruption then convert the existing A1237 into the anti-clockwise route.
