HOW disappointed and appalled I was to read the column from Julian Sturdy, MP for York Outer, (The Press, June 29), in which he states that “he will concentrate to campaign for the things that matter most to local people: improved transport links, protecting the green belt, a fairer NHS deal for York and North Yorkshire, and measures to deliver a stronger and more prosperous economy”.

While all his stated aims are laudable, he regrettably and completely omits from his column the fact that the most tragic plight affecting York and the rest of the country at the moment is the lack of affordable housing and council housing.

Julian Sturdy is my MP, by virtue of where I live, although he never got my vote. I would never vote Tory in my life.

His column just highlights how out of touch the MP for York Outer is with the realities of current society, when he doesn’t even think it worthy to touch on homelessness and the lack of affordable housing in today’s supposedly egalitarian society.

Surely, he should either readdress his aims or be totally ashamed of his views.
