FINAL preparations are being put in place for a festival this weekend which aims to boost community sports facilities.

The Fulford Beer and Music Festival, on Saturday from 2pm til sunset, hopes to attract more than 300 people to raise funds to benefit local people of all ages.

Now in its third year, the event has previously raised almost £3,500 to support sport in the area, with £500 donated to an appeal for a defibrillator on the gates of Fulford School.

The licensed bar will sell about a dozen local real ales, plus local craft keg lagers and local, traditional and fruit ciders, featuring Jolly Sailor Brewery, Yorkshire Heart, Treboom Brewery, Sunbeam Ales, Half Moon Brewery, Hambleton Ales, Ainsty Ales, Brass Castle Brewery, and Orchards Of Husthwaite.

There will also be a Prosecco Bar and a food stall.

Steamtown, a Yorkshire Americana guitar and banjo duo, is one of the live bands due to perform during the afternoon and evening, alongside The Senators.

Further businesses have thrown their weight behind the event since The Press published an appeal for support by organiser Nigel Craddock.

Autohorn are this year's main sponsors, with York-based Pavilion Row sponsoring the programme.

Barrel sponsors include Press Green, MGW Joinery, Peter Moody & Co, Walker Crips Group, Ainsty Ales, Harrowells Solicitors, Just Gents Barbers, The Alternative Board, Ian Walker & Co, Active Care Chiropractic, plus Charters Reid Surveyors who are sponsoring two barrels.

Tickets are now on sale via Just Gents Barbers and via Fulford FC but people can also pay on the day.

The event is being hosted by Fulford Football Club and Fulford Community Sports Club at the Fulfordgate Sports Pavilion on Saturday July 8.
