CHECKS on schools in York have so far revealed no concerns about dangerous cladding on the buildings.

City of York Council has been looking into the construction of schools around the city - either built by them or through the government’s Priority Schools Building Programme. Bosses say they are not aware of any aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding panels on schools built or maintained by the council, but they are seeking final confirmation from two developers involved in the Priority School Building Programme.

At Manor CE Academy, where the Hive arts and media building is covered in brightly coloured cladding, school leaders have confirmed that building is covered by inert cement board - not the aluminium composite cladding used on Grenfell Tower, while the sports hall has composite steel faced insulated panel cladding which complies with fire and building rules.

Manor and other schools including Archbishop Holgate’s have confirmed that all other measures - like fire risk assessments and alarm systems, are checked and up to date.
