A FATHER from York was appearing on television today appealing for more information about an attack that left him seriously injured.

Andy Boldison was walking home from a night out at the Acorn Rugby Club in the early hours of Sunday, May 7, when he was attacked just yards from his front door.

The 55-year-old suffered a serious head injury which he believes was caused by a pint glass, and he was appearing on the BBC’s Crimewatch Roadshow this morning.

Mr Boldison, known as Boldo, explains how he was left unconscious and needed a number of stitches in his head after the attack, and a re-enactment of the event was shown.

He said: “Hopefully after the reconstruction and appeal something might jog someone’s memory and someone might get in touch.

“I’m hoping someone is caught after this. I want to see someone arrested and sent to court. I’m just trying to put it all behind me, but I still have headaches.”

Mr Boldison, who lives off Huntington Road, said he is still mentally and physically affected by the attack, which left him worried about leaving the house after dark.

He said: “I’m numb, where the scar is it’s healed well, but I’m numb and get headaches all the time. I’m still a bit wary going out at night too. None of my friends are happy about it, it’s a small knit community round here, and they stick together and look out for each other. They’re not happy with what’s happened, nobody is, no-one wants to see that happen to anyone.”

North Yorkshire Police will also appeal for anyone who saw two youths arguing seconds before the incident.

Speaking to The Press days after the attack, Mr Boldison said: “I heard voices behind me sounding like two lads arguing. I glanced around and saw two lads, one of them looked like he was carrying a drinking glass in his hand. I glanced back round and in a matter of about 20 seconds felt a bang on my head.

“I remember picking myself up off the floor and went home, looked in the mirror, and couldn’t feel any blood trickling. I just thought ‘Jesus Christ, what’s happened’? I was shocked, it was unbelievable. I was just minding my own business walking home and that happens.”

Mr Boldison said the two men were in their 20s, with short hair and slim builds. One wore a Harrington-style jacket, but he cannot remember anything else about the incident.

PC Amanda Popely said: “We are hoping that the reconstruction will jog someone’s memory and bring new information to light to enable us to bring justice for Mr Boldison.

“This was a disturbing and unprovoked attack on a man who was just walking home after a night out with friends, and we are appealing for information which will help us identify and track down the suspects. I would appeal to anyone who has any information which would assist our investigation to contact police on 101.”

The Crimewatch Roadshow was being broadcast at 9.15am on BBC One.
