A GROUP of young adventurers have been invited to celebrate the Queen’s birthday in style.

Twelve girls and four leaders from 3rd Copmanthorpe Brownies were delighted to receive rare tickets to watch guardsman take part in The Trooping of the Colour - Queen Elizabeth II’s annual parade at Horse Guard’s Parade, which has taken place since 1748.

The Copmanthorpe group left York yesterday for London to see the Queen inspect around 2,000 members of the Household Division and Horse Guards.

Lesley Strathie MBE of 3rd Copmanthorpe Brownies, said: “Girlguiding is allocated only 250 tickets by the organisers for a membership of almost half a million.

“You can imagine how shocked we were when our unit received some tickets.

“Despite the recent terrorist activities the girls from Copmanthorpe are undeterred.
