FURTHER to your lead article concerning the emerging details of the proposed building of 2,700-plus houses at Green Hammerton and the diversion of the main A59 road between Harrogate and York, I trust your readers are now aware of the enormous implications of this scheme to the city of York (The Press, June 13).

The independent report of the infrastructure needed to complete the building of this new “town” in effect, which joins the villages of Green and Kirk Hammerton, only emphasises why the unused golf course at Flaxby near Knaresborough should be the chosen site with direct access on to the A1M.

The report indicates for the Harrogate Borough Council that if Green Hammerton is chosen the people living in the 3,000 houses, ie we assume 10,000 people could use York Hospital, which would take pressure off Harrogate District Hospital.

I personally wonder if York Hospital is aware of the possibility of this happening.

We have York postcodes in this village but pay our council taxes to Harrogate.
