DOGS at polling stations have been trending on Twitter - led by Wolfie, a 'smiling' white German shepherd from York.
#DogsAtPollingStations is a polling day tradition and the hashtag has been taking social media by storm today as pooches stolen the General Election limelight.
In York, voter Karen Faughey tweeted a picture of an apparently smiling Wolfie outside a station at Canon Lee in Rawcliffe Drive, Clifton, this morning, with the message: ' "Wolfie, go and sit by the sign and smile." And he did.'
Responses included: "Is he smiling because he knows the result?", "That is the best doggie grin, well done Wolfie. Good boy," "Such a gorgeous pup!" and "This one is definitely the best #dogsatpollingstations photo everrrr!"
Another voter, Michelle Bull, tweeted a picture of her dog, Tees, at a polling station in Copmanthorpe just after polling opened during her early morning walk.
She said Tees, a Jackapoo - a Jack Russell crossed with a poodle - would probably have voted Green had she been allowed - as she liked rolling around in the grass so much.
One person replied: "I would vote for this lovely dog any day."
*Have you taken your dog with you when you went to vote today, and taken a picture of it outside the station? If so, please email it to newsdesk@thepress.co.uk.
