THE inquest into the death of a man who died in prison while on trial for attempted murder will open today.
Paul Michael Rishworth, also known as Paul Brolly, was on remand at HMP Leeds during his trial with three others at Leeds Crown Court.
West Yorkshire Police and the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman are carrying out investigations into his death on May 23, which happened just hours before he was expected to start his defence.
West Yorkshire area coroner Jonathan Leach will open the inquest in Wakefield this morning when he will hear brief details about the death and confirm the dead man’s identity.
He may also hear details of a post mortem into the cause of the death.
He will then adjourn the inquest for a full hearing on a date to be decided, but which is expected to be within six months.
Rishworth, 31, of no fixed address from York, had admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Matthew Carney, but had denied attempted murder and conspiracy to murder.
