A cyclist suffered broken bones and bruising in a collision with a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident after the driver of the vehicle allegedly left the scene without leaving details.

The collision happened on Beckfield Lane, near Boroughbridge Road in York, at around 3.15pm on Monday, May 22.

The car was a small red vehicle driven by a woman described as white, around 40-years-old, medium to heavy build, 5ft 6in tall with blonde hair. She had a male passenger in the car with her at the time of the collision.

The cyclist suffered a fracture to her knee cap and a fracture to her toe, plus heavy bruising to her arms and legs.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "The red vehicle involved left the scene prior to details being exchanged or a registration number being taken by the victim.

"We are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing the vehicle(s) prior to the collision, to get in touch as soon as possible to assist the investigation.

"In particular, we are appealing for information about the driver of the red car involved, and would appeal to the driver to contact us to assist us in determining the circumstances around the incident."
