A SMALL earthquake was recorded near Tadcaster in the early hours of this morning.
The British Geological Survey has reported that a quake measuring 1.9 on the Richter scale was detected near the North Yorkshire town at around 4.30am on Tuesday.

The epicentre has been identified six kilometres below the surface at the village of Saxton, around five miles south of Tadcaster.
According to the BGS, the 1.9 strength tremor is among the strongest of the 23 tremors recorded in the British Isle across the last 50 days.
