A PARENT has nominated a York school for a Community Pride Award, and praised staff for going the “extra mile” to help pupils and parents.

Clifton Green Primary School is in the running to win the School of the Year award after being put forward by Tamara Robinson.

She has two children who attend the school, who she says are “both very happy and enjoy the learning environment provided for them”.

Explaining why she has nominated the school, Tamara said: “At this school better certainly never stops.

“From cleaning staff right up to the headteacher, every member of staff goes that extra mile, the care given is always done by the extra mile.”

She says Clifton Green Primary supported her family in 2013 when they had to appeal for a place at the school for their daughter.

“The staff in school and admissions team at the time were an amazing support and we went on to win the appeal,” she said.

Tamara added: “We couldn’t wish for a happier school for our children to attend, this shows in their development and learning ability.

“As a childminder providing care for pupils who attend here I feel very supported if ever I should need help or advice.

“At anytime of the day in school, even if the teacher has not taught your child and may not know you, they always acknowledge you, ‘Hello’ and a smile”.

Head teacher Dave Brown says the school has “family and community at its heart”.

He commented: “We are really proud to be nominated for this award.

“I am lucky to lead fantastic staff who are always willing to go above and beyond for our pupils and it means a lot to us when that is recognised.

“We also have brilliant, supportive parents and wider family and they play just as an important part in making Clifton Green a great school that our community can be proud of.”

The winner of the School of the Year award in 2016 was Westfield Primary School.
