FAMILY and friends of Katie Rough will come together at a fundraiser next month to remember the youngster.

The seven-year-old's family are raising money for local charities during a day of activities on Friday, June 9 at York Acorn Rugby Club.

It will come five months after she was found with serious wounds in a field off Alness Drive, in Woodthorpe, and died later in York Hospital.

There will be an array of colourful and fun activities on the day, including a soft play for toddlers, bouncy castle, face painters, children's characters, glitter tattoos and an ice cream van.

Sarah Nockels, Katie's auntie, said the family wanted to organise something in the youngster's memory and support charities.

She said: "This is about getting together and remembering Katie in a fun way.

"It's not about raising money, it's so people from all over the community can join in.

A statement released by the family has also thanked people for their generosity and kindness since Katie's death.

They said: "We would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has shown support towards the Rough family to date.

"Thanks for your kind wishes, generosity, thoughts and prayers, donations to Go Fund Me and everything else that has been done to help.

"We would also like to thank all the businesses who have kindly donated prizes and given so generously."

A 15-year-old girl accused of murdering Katie will go on trial at Leeds Crown Court on July 3.

The teenager was arrested and charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon after Katie was found with severe lacerations to her neck and chest.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to her age, denies murder.
