Snow and bitterly cold temperatures have arrived in York just days after the city was basking in the spring sunshine.
Snow began to fall around 1.30pm and showers of hailstones have continued throughout the afternoon.
The day began with clear blue skies and bright sunshine, and only two days ago residents were dressed in shorts and T-shirts.
The weather is set to improve as we head into the May Bank Holiday weekend, and could reach as high as 14 C by May Day and 17C by Wednesday of next week.
