A SHED was among the vehicles blasting down the runway at Elvington Airfield as several world records were broken.
The Straightliners motorcycle wheelie world championship and British land speed record event event at Elvington Airfield saw all manner of vehicles attempt to break speed records.
Among the competitors, paraplegic rider Talan Skeels-Piggins rode a custom built electric bike to reach speeds of 168 mph, the fastest recorded speed on an electric bike.
Event favourite Kevin Knicks, of Oxfordshire, broke a personal record with the world’s fastest shed, reaching speeds of over 99 mph, beating his previous record of 88mph.
Motorbike rider Jack Frost reached speeds of 263mph and Steve Warner had the fastest wheelie at 183mph.
Trevor Duckworth of organisers Straightliners, said: “The atmosphere has been fantastic.
“Everyone has been trying to get ready for one of the main record events of the year in May, the British National Record Attempts.”
Straightliners, regulars in Elvington, run about 40 automotive top speed and record events across the UK.
