RAIL passengers in Selby faced cancellations and delays this morning due to a signalling problem caused by a "deliberate act of vandalism."

Network Rail received reports of a signalling problem between Hessle and Hull Interchange shortly before 6am.

Trains between Hull and Selby were cancelled up until 9am and delayed for some time after that.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “Engineers visited the site and discovered that a piece of signalling cable had been placed across the tracks in a deliberate act of vandalism."
