A FIRE in a derelict building in a village near York is believed to have been started deliberately.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters from Huntington tackled the blaze at a property in Lords Moor Lane, Strensall, early today, which caused a small amount of internal damage.
Selby crews were later called to the skate park at Selby Leisure Centre, Scott Road, following a report of a small fire, but it was out on arrival.
A bin fire in St Georges Field Car Park, York, caused by a dropped light, was put out by firefighters with a bucket of water in the afternoon.
There was also a call-out to Huntington School, where an automatic fire alarm was activated by heat from a hairdryer.
In Harrogate, crews attended a small camp fire in woodland to the rear of Aldi in Jennyfield Drive. "They extinguished the fire using water backpacks and gave advice to the youths," said a spokesman.
Firefighters from Harrogate also went to Grosvenor Gardens, Huby, near Easingwold, to help ambulance crews gain access so they could treat an elderly male casualty.
