A PUB landlady has raised £1,700 for York Hospital by shaving her head before her chemotherapy treatment.

Angie Hughes, from Easingwold, took the brave decision to shave her head before starting treatment for breast cancer in January, and her husband Tony got on board by agreeing to lose his hair as well.

In a special event at the Commercial in Easingwold in January, they raised £1,700 for the hospital with the help of friends who agreed to wax their legs and chests, and from raffle prizes kindly donated by local businesses, and Vale Radio who promoted the event and went along for the evening.

Debbie Brian, breast imagining unit manager at York Hospital said they were thankful for Angie’s efforts. She said: “We are very grateful to Angie for the very generous donation.

“This generous gift will have a significant benefit to the patients using the breast services in York and surrounding areas and the team would like to say a huge thank you.”
