PLANS have emerged for a new furniture store and sale room at the York Auction Centre site on Murton Lane.

A planning application has been submitted to City of York Council, with papers revealing the proposals for a new furniture warehouse and auction room on a currently unused portion of the site.

A design and access statement prepared by planning agents LHL Group reveals plans to put up a new building south west of the auction centre, the near main entrance on to Murton Lane at the west of York.

The proposals also incorporate a new entrance for an existing building, which together with an internal mezzanine floor would result in a final internal floor space of 975 sq m.

The building could house an existing business moving in to the area, the papers show, “bringing a much needed boost to the economy and local community”.

“To maintain York Auction Centre’s position as a leading source of employment and economy the proposal will boost the area by attracting and retaining its tenants and owner occupiers, the Directors/ Owners seek approval for the redevelopment of the unoccupied space,” the statement adds.

If the plans go ahead, the new facilities would include a large showroom for furniture and antiques, storage on the mezzanine floor, an auction room, offices and other facilities.

There would also be an additional 21 parking spaces and footpaths around the site.

York Auction Centre’s management and the LHL Group declined to comment on the application.
