EXTRA buses and free parking have been organised for this year’s Viking Festival.

The Park & Raid service will see extra services put on at Rawcliffe Bar at 8.10pm and 8.30pm on Saturday, February 25, to allow more visitors to attend Bloodaxe’s Last Stand at Rawcliffe Country Park and return to the city centre.

A thousand free parking spaces have also been allocated for visitors driving to the ‘swords, son-et-lumière’ event.

Paul Whiting, marketing manager of Jorvik Viking Centre, said: “This is one of the busiest times for the city of York, when car and coach parking - and even boat mooring spaces – are at a premium, so it makes sense to encourage our visitors to take advantage of the ‘park & raid’ to enjoy all the festival events without worrying about how much time is left on their parking ticket.”

York Press:

Rachel Benn, business delivery manager at First York, said: “We’re proud to be supporting this historic festival, which is hugely popular in York.

“We’ve extended the running of the number 2 park & ride service from Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride so that festival goers have the opportunity to see this year’s finale – and we’d ask any customers with questions about the service to get in touch.”
