AN OSBALDWICK couple who came to York nearly 47 years ago are celebrating 60 years of marriage today.
Audrey and Laurence Pye met at work and married in 1957 in St Paul’s Church, Halliwell, Bolton. Mr Pye’s work for a printers’ union brought them to York in 1970. Today the great-grandparents will mark their diamond wedding anniversary with a special dinner, and later this month they will be joined by friends and family for a party.
“We are grateful we have got here and we want people to share the evening with us - it’s a chance for us to say thanks for being part of our lives,” Mr Pye said.
He said the secret to a happy marriage lay in “give and take” and never taking each other for granted.
The couple have two children, Lynsay and Stephen; their third son Marshall died 13 years ago. They have five grandchildren and six great-grand children.
