Police  are appealing for witnesses to a major fatal crash on the A19 near Selby to come forward. 

A 24-year-old  motorcyclist died when his vehicle and three cars collided half a mile north of Chapel Haddlesey.  The incident closed the road for nearly nine hours on Friday evening. 

The 25-year-old driver of a grey Citroen C1 was arrested on suspicion of causing his death by careless driving.  He was later released on police bail. 

The other two vehicles involved in the crash were a grey Ford Ranger pick-up truck and a grey VW Jetta car. 

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or saw any of the vehicles before the crash to come forward. 

They are also appealing for anyone who arrived at the crash scene after it happened, but didn't stop to speak to police, to contact them. 

The crash happened shortly at about 6.30pm yesterday evening.  The motorcyclist, who was from the Goole area and was riding a Honda bike, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The road was closed until 3am.  The arrested man came from Rotherham and was questioned before being released while police carry out further investigations.
